National Day of Respect for the Taxpayer

In commemoration of the National Day of Respect for the Taxpayer, it is always good to reflect on the importance of those who pay taxes for the maintenance of fundamental rights and guarantees, such as the right to life, liberty, equality, security and property.

Every year, the Union, States and Municipalities collect trillions of reais in taxes and these amounts are the fruit of the taxpayers' efforts, each one in its own measure, so that the State can efficiently guarantee the maintenance of the dignity of each citizen.

Therefore, on this date, it is necessary to reinforce the importance of the exercise of citizenship by each one of us, taxpayers, in search of fiscal justice. On the other hand, besides a less inflated and more efficient state, it is necessary to have a tax system that meets the real interests of society as a whole.

The recent victories obtained by taxpayers in the Judiciary should serve as an incentive to continue the fight for the much-desired tax reform, with the implementation of a simpler and more efficient system that prioritizes the legal security of taxpayers and discourages litigation, making room for increased investments and economic recovery.

No less important is administrative reform to modernise the State, reducing bureaucracy and the enormous cost of the public machine.

This is the way for the taxpayer to be truly invested in his role. The process is long, but by delivering a better society, with quality education and health, the taxpayer is valued.

On this National Day of Respect for the Taxpayer, we exalt all those who, as citizens, contribute to the development of Brazilian society, remembering that the sole purpose of taxation is not only to ensure the functioning of the State, but also to ensure the full enjoyment of the fundamental rights and guarantees of each one of us.
