As the technology of the payment market advances, fraudsters reinvent themselves so that they can continue with their absurd attempts to obtain undue advantages over those who are not so attentive to the means of payment, be it a card, Pix, Boleto, among others.
Specifically as to the boleto, the Financial and Payment Institutions may use the contract - in addition to the other channels of communication with the end user - as a means to indicate the main guidelines to be observed at the time of payment to prevent fraud from occurring, among them, (i) analysis to make sure there are no Portuguese errors or formatting flaws; (ii) checking the printed logo to confirm that it coincides with the issuing institution; and (iii) verification of the information on the boleto: (i) analysis to make sure there are no Portuguese mistakes or formatting flaws; (ii) checking the printed logo to confirm that it matches the issuing institution; and (iii) checking the bar code to ensure that the final digits correspond to the amount to be paid.
With this, it is possible to argue that the end user had elements to identify that the boleto had signs of fraud, but failed to observe; reason for which the Financial Institution or Payment Institution cannot be held responsible, since the fraud occurred through the end user's exclusive fault.
